I’ve finally finished my ‘Seattle Skyline’ (18″ x 36″) painting:

This is my fifth update about my Seattle Skyline painting that I’m currently working on, and I hope to complete it soon! I’ve made progress since my last update, and still have a number of buildings to paint and corrections to make on it, but I like how it’s coming along so far:

This is the fourth update on my Seattle Skyline (18″ x 36″) Work In Progress, and it’s coming along slow and steady. I’m trying to finish the buildings as I paint from right to left, but there are still some touch ups and alterations needed to be made of course, as I figure out how to make each building distinctive and different from the others. I’m happy with my progress to date, and will take my time filling it in and touching up the buildings as I go along. I still have to add a few stars to the night sky, and sort out exactly how the evening fog and darkness should look across the bottom of the painting, but here it is to date:

This is the third update on my Seattle Skyline (18″ x 36″) Work In Progress, and it’s just over halfway finished. I’ve run out of white acrylic paint, and I’m waiting for the delivery of a new set of paints to arrive later this week before continuing. I still have to fix the ‘S’ that seems to have been figuratively sat on, and then complete the skyscrapers to the left of the Space Needle as well. I’ve never painted anything like this urban skyline scene before, but I like how the process is evolving and developing. Here’s my progress through this week for your viewing pleasure:

This is the second update on my current painting in progress that I call ‘Seattle Skyline’ (18″ x 36″), and I’m making slow, but steady progress on it. I saw a current photo of Seattle earlier today, and I think the city put up a new skyscraper or twelve over the course of the past two weeks, so excuse me if my artwork lags the real world! 🙂 I’ve also used quite a bit of artistic license to fill in the skyscrapers and create smaller buildings in the foreground, as my painting is meant to be an impression of Seattle’s skyline, and not a perfect photographic copy. In addition, I’ve decided to let the letters stand out in white, as they’re taking on a very nice appearance without the addition of extra colors. Here’s my progress through today for your viewing pleasure:

I’m currently painting a picture I call ‘Seattle Skyline’ (18″ x 36″) and decided to share updates of my Work In Progress (WIP) with you along the way. This is my first original artwork (beside house painting) since 1988, and I’m glad to finally be back doing something that I absolutely love to do – which is completely independent of my skill or lack thereof – as a painter. The fact I enjoy this area of my creativity is reason enough to start painting again! I still have to tone down the underside of the Space Needle, as it’s not quite right yet (it looks better at a distance than it does close up), fill in the buildings and the name ‘Seattle,’ and then add a few stars. I’ve never before painted a painting like this, and filling in the buildings with lights on in the windows will be a daunting challenge for me, so we’ll see how well I rise to the occasion! My aim is to have the name ‘Seattle’ pop out as if it was a magazine cover title superimposed over a photo, so I’ll paint each of the letters in a different color of the rainbow – starting with a red ‘S’ on the left. It’ll be quite colorful in contrast with the muted gray and black buildings in the background, but as it was my original concept I’ll run with it to the end!
